JY Yang is a queer, non-binary Singaporean author. They are the author of the Tensorate series of novellas from Tor.Com Publishing (THE RED THREADS OF FORTUNE, THE BLACK TIDES OF HEAVEN, THE DESCENT OF MONSTERS, and the upcoming THE ASCENT TO HEAVEN), and they have over two dozen works of short fiction published in places such as Uncanny Magazine, Lightspeed, Strange Horizons, and Lackington’s. They have been nominated for the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy and Locus awards, and their work has been a Tiptree nominee.
In previous incarnations, JY has been a molecular biologist; a writer for animation, comics and games; and a journalist for one of Singapore’s major papers.
A postcolonial intersectional feminist, their work often examines issues of race, class, and gender. Their work has been described thus in a profile by Haralambi Markov for Tor.com (article written before their pronoun change):

J graduated from the 2013 class of Clarion West. In 2015 they were awarded a postgraduate scholarship from the National Arts Council of Singapore to read their MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, Britain.
