Lori Prince shows off all her comedy talent in this audiobook
Robin Alexander is releasing all her back catalogue in audio format, most of them with Lori Prince as narrator. Ms. Alexander’s quirky sense of humour and Lori Prince’s awesome comedic timing is a perfect match. So if you are looking for a few hours of entertainment with a funny story, this is a good choice.
Blaze Sonnier is having a bad year, after being dragged into a fight that she didn’t cause, she’s been accused of being a bully. To top it all, her estranged mother, who abandoned her for an acting career, appears on her doorstep injured and broke looking for a place to stay. But her luck seems to be changing when she helps a stranger to change her car tire. Caleigh Breaux is moving to Blaze’s small town of Falcon, Louisianna in search of a career change and a quieter life. The least she was expecting was to meet the woman of her dreams there…
This is another sweet romance, with no angst, ridiculously funny situations, and comic dialogues. The background is a Louisianna small town in which everyone minds their neighbours business, a setting typical of this author. If you’ve read one of Robin Alexander’s books, you know what to expect, her style is very distinctive, so much so, that if you read a chapter without being told who’s the writer, you’ll recognise it straight away. Ms. Alexander’s eccentric characters, absurd situations and hilarious take on menopause are a trademark:
“We’re looking for something for menopause.”
“Alcohol is in aisle two, fans in aisle six, stress squeeze balls are in aisle eight, and snacks are in aisles three and four,” the clerk replied. “Before you ask, we don’t sell weapons of any kind, not even pepper spray.”
Blissfully Blindsided is partly a romance and party a family life novel. It’s about reconciliation, redemption, and coming together as a family. Blaze and her family embark on a journey of transformation that changes them by letting the past go and looking forward to a brighter future. The romance is sweet, quirky, and without angst. Romance fans might find that it’s mostly in the background compared to other parts of the story which carry more weight. So if you are looking for tension, push-pull dynamic, pining, or angst, this is definitely not your kind of romance. However, there’s something to be said about small-town, family-centered comedies like this one.
