‘No Good Reason’ (Dark Peak Book 1) by Cari Hunter

If you haven’t read this, what are you waiting for?! To date, I have read around a thousand lesfic books, and the main characters in this one, Sanne and Meg, are my favorite lesfic pairing and Hunter perfectly blends the slightest touch of romance in this mystery heavy story. You will find yourself on the edge of your seat with this read and I can almost guarantee that you will also dive straight into books two and three of the series immediately after finishing this read. For lesfic mystery fans, this is a must-read series!   Available on audio as well for audiobook lovers!

‘Death by the Riverside’ (Micky Knight Book 1) by J.M. Redmann

It may be daunting to look at a series that is now up to ten books in total, but don’t let that scare you away from this! In fact, once you get started, it’s likely that you will find yourself counting down the days until the next book in the series is released. The main character, Micky Knight is a sarcastic, flawed woman who you will immediately love. This is another can’t miss series for the lesfic mystery fan!

‘Trigger’ (A Dr. Kate Morrison Mystery Book 1) by Jessica Webb

If you’re looking for something a bit different from the norm, give this one a read! ‘Trigger’ has a very unique storyline, with the main characters working together to race against time to stop the ‘bad guy’ from detonating bombs that have been implanted into human beings. This is a fast-paced and action-packed read that you won’t be able to put down! Available on audio as well for audiobook lovers!

‘Collide-O-Scope’ (Norfolk Coast Book 1) by Andrea Bramhall

Mystery novels that attempt to combine a true romantic storyline as a secondary theme are ridiculously hard to find. Many authors seem to have trouble toeing the line and a novel ends up being either strong on the mystery, or strong on the romance, but rarely both. Bramhall managed to perfectly blend the two in creating her Norfolk Coast series! Book one just touches on the romance sub-theme with the crime procedural mystery shining in the forefront. For maximum goodness, read all four books in the series!

‘The Killing Room’ by Gerri Hill

With double-digit novels to her name, almost half of those being mysteries, you really can’t go wrong picking up a Gerri Hill novel! She’s a masterful storyteller and I truly struggled choosing which of her many mystery books to include on this list. Ultimately, I chose to include ‘The Killing Room as it’s one of the earlier novels on Hill’s mystery shelf. One thing to be careful of in reading these, Hill does sometimes spoil the bad guy from previous books in her more recently published novels, so read them in order! That won’t be a struggle though, trust me. You will want to read them all once you get started. Available on audio as well for audiobook lovers!

‘Payback’ by Charlotte Mills

After personally reading more than a thousand mainstream and lesfic mystery stories, it’s rare for me to be surprised by the ‘whodunit’ in a novel. Mills absolutely delighted me in this read with the twists and turns, and I loved every minute of this one! There is plenty of action to keep any mystery fan interested, as well as a top-notch romance included with wonderful chemistry to boot. If you’re a lesfic mystery fan, this needs to be on your to-read list!

The Domme Tamer‘ by Kat Evans

If you’re looking for a mystery with a touch of an erotic twist, grab this novel immediately! This story might not be for everyone as it’s quite dark and twisted, but for those who want a change of pace, this is a great read! It’s quite disturbing in places, centering on murders within the New Orleans BDSM community. If you’re looking something a little darker, or for fans of BDSM themed stories, give this one a read!

Erased‘ by Robbi McCoy

What happens when a cop chases a suspect through an apartment building, only to wake up the next day and find that her life has completely changed? None of her co-workers, neighbors, friends, family, or even her spouse remembers who she is. That’s the main theme behind this unique sci-fi/mystery blend novel. The best part – you don’t have to be a sci-fi fan to love this one! ‘Erased combines all of the best elements of a mystery/suspense novel along with romance, but also includes a dash of time travel. I know, I know, that sounds a bit odd, but it absolutely works! Do yourself a favor and grab this story now, it’s truly a page-turner!

The Last Place You Look‘ (Roxanne Weary Book 1) by Kristen Lepionka

If you’re looking for a truly suspenseful thriller starring a messed up main character, look no further! Our primary main character is a bisexual PI who’s seriously in a bad place, drinking and grieving the death of her father. Lepionka’s debut novel is tightly written and features wonderfully messy characters, honestly authentic relationships, right along with a beautiful writing style. Available on audio as well for audiobook lovers!

Amateur City‘ (Kate Delafield Book 1) by Katherine V Forrest

It would be truly sacrilegious to make a list of mystery novels without including this series by Katherine V Forrest. This first book does feel a bit dated at times (it was first published in 1984), but it’s an absolute must-read if you’re a fan of the modern lesfic mystery genre. Forrest’s ‘Kate Delafield novels essentially created the sub-genre that we now know as lesbian mystery. Do yourself a favor and go back to the roots of this sub-genre by giving this story a read, you won’t be disappointed!

Of course, there are a number of other books from other authors that came close to making my list but fell just short of the mark for one reason or another.  I’m talking about novels from great authors like Val McDermid, Ann McMan, Kate Sweeney, Malinda Lo, Lindy Cameron, Ellen Hart, Iona McGregor.  Some of these just barely missed the cut. Thankfully, these days we have hundreds of lesbian mystery, suspense, and thriller novels out there for our enjoyment.  I can’t wait to see what comes out next!
