Review of ‘Best Practice’ by Carsen Taite
This is book three and final installment of the Legal Affairs Romance series by Carsen Taite that follows the lives of three lawyers friends who open a law practice together in Austin, Texas.
‘Best Practice’ features Grace Maldonado, the law practice office manager and Perry Clarke, her best friend’s younger sister, who is also a lawyer. While Grace and her friends are dedicated to corporate law, Perry defends political prisoners in third world countries. When Perry has to return urgently to the US after her life is threatened abroad, she reconnects with Grace, her childhood crush. Both women feel a mutual attraction but Perry is her best friend’s sister who intends to leave the US as soon as possible. Will they have a future together?
Carsen Taite is a retired criminal attorney who likes to introduce her ample knowledge of the law in her books. For me, she is at her best when she writes legal thrillers or courtroom dramas. Even though this series presents three lawyers, the legal aspects of the stories are kept to a minimum while it focuses on the romance and friendship parts. ‘Best Practice’ is no exception. I wish that this series in general and this book, in particular, would have featured a more prominent legal plot that makes Ms. Taite’s books unique. Hopefully, the author will be back at writing legal thrillers in the near future.
Having said that, this was my favourite in the series, possibly because the chemistry between the main characters was super hot. There’s something to be said about age-gap, opposites-attract, workplace romances, especially when there is a ‘forbidden element’ to it. In that sense, this book ticks all the boxes. Despite the reader won’t get any surprises, as the direction of the story is very clear from the beginning, it will satisfy the interest of romance fans.
Even though it’s not essential to read the books in this series chronologically, I’d recommend it as you will find here spoilers of the other books. As a bonus, ‘Best Practice’ lets you catch up with the relationships featured in the previous books and ties a nice bow to wrap up the whole story.
Overall, an entertaining and hot opposites-attract romance. 4 stars.
