Review of ‘Gold Star Chance’ by C.J. Murphy
This was really enjoyable! I decided to take a quick break from ARC’s to read some books that have been on my ‘to-read list’ all year. I love books about women in uniform so I thought this would be a good place to start. This is actually my first book by Murphy but it won’t be my last. This was a good action romance book and I’m excited to see that book two is out already.
This was a lesbian feel-good romance with two women in their early 50s. I liked that this book wasn’t with the usual 20 or 30 year-olds. How many times do you read an action-packed book starring a woman who is 54? It just doesn’t really happen and I love the variety and things that are different so that hooked me right there.
The setting was really nice. A medium town with enough crime to keep things interesting, but still lots of rural areas too so you also had the excitement of search and rescue. It was the perfect mix to weave action in with the romance that kept me turning the pages.
While this is a real feel-good romance that is low angst that does not mean that there wasn’t any drama. Actually there was a good amount of drama that I enjoyed and it gave the book the conflict it needed. I like when a book has drama that comes from outside the couple, instead of always just making the drama be a misunderstanding between the couple themselves.
I would absolutely recommend this to romance fans that like some action and excitement to keep the pages turning. I had some high hopes for this and I’m happy that it filled them. I really liked Murphy’s story choices and I can’t wait to read more. 4.25 Stars.
