Review of ‘Dateless’ (LEZbites) by Gemma Bloom
I enjoyed this more than I expected to. I picked this up as my free Kindle Unlimited book for November which comes from my Prime membership. I just took a chance hoping this would be a cute read and luckily it was. Considering this is the first lesfic story Bloom has written, I think she did a really good job. The story was really readable, it had a little wit and it was sweet. This is a novella and about half as long as an average lesfic book. I thought the length was perfect for the story. There was enough happening to keep the story going and the pace never slowed. It’s a shorter time together with the main characters but I grew to like them anyway and was hoping for a happily ever after.
For a self-published book, the writing quality was high. I only noticed a couple of proofing mistakes and one mix-up when the main character said she had sex with someone but a few pages later she changed it to that they fooled around but didn’t have sex. But luckily the mistakes were few and they didn’t mess with my enjoyment of the story.
I do want to mention that there are no sex scenes in this book. In fact, even the kissing is technically fade to black. It’s an odd choice that I’m not used to seeing but to be honest, it didn’t bother me in the quick story. Maybe a full-length book would have gotten old but Bloom was able to give the relationship chemistry anyway. Since this was her first lesfic book, maybe she will feel comfortable to be more intimate the more she writes.
This was a sweet lesbian romance novella that was very readable. I enjoyed it more than I expected and I would recommend it to Kindle Unlimited members. I think Bloom can write and I would not hesitate to read something else she authored. 3.50 stars.
