A quirky Valentine’s Day novella
Cindi’s had a crush on her childhood friend Tara forever and it turns out that it’s mutual. When Tara invites her to the university’s Valentine’s ball, Cindi wants to say yes but all sorts of questions come up. How will she afford a dress? And will she feel comfortable showing off her body in said dress? This is where her Gran, Miss Havisham, comes in.
This isn’t your usual Valentine’s Day novella. This shouldn’t come as a surprise since the author is Eule Grey. It’s sweet and full of love but it’s also quirky and unexpected.
There’s a lot happening in such a short story, not so much as far as the plot is concerned but in all the themes it highlights: Cindi’s struggles with loving her body, the rich girl/poor girl aspect of the relationship, the pressure to excel Tara faces while Cindi’s expected to fail. All topics that could make this story dark instead of the light and sweet as cotton candy love cloud Grey gives us. 4 stars.
