Sapphic fun under the Spanish Sun
Queen of Hearts is Elna Holst’s first novella in a new series (From Sappho With Love) held together by a common theme: a chain of postcards sent from sapphic travellers across space and time.
In the summer of 1972, twenty-one-year-old university undergrad Annette Thornton, aka Thorny Netty, finds herself on a coerced holiday with her younger sister Fiona, expected to spend two long sweltering weeks babysitting said sister on the island of Gran Canaria. To say she’s peeved would be an understatement. But when she catches a glimpse of a stranger on a balcony, impulses long buried begin to surface—impulses that sorely put Thorny Netty’s much-touted self-possession to the test.
Netty only starts enjoying her time under the Spanish sun when her focus shifts from her sister to bikini-clad goddess Franciska Cervantes, lounging on the hotel balcony below. When they are ‘coincidentally’ paired up as a bridge couple and spend more time together we are witness to a wonderful holiday romance.
I loved it! Holst is great with the shorter stories. She packs everything into these 91 pages. Lovely characters, a great Spanish holiday vibe, sweet and sexy chemistry. Everything you need for a satisfying little read! This is going to be a great series.
