Miles apart is a story about breakup, recovery and starting new relationships. Kudos to the author for tackling in a romance book issues such as promiscuity, infidelity and breakup. It’s hard to emphasise with such flawed characters but it is a realistic approach to relationships that is often avoided in romances. The main characters are multilayered and believable. Ms. Brooks also introduces us to the hardships of long distance relationships. Having said that, the balance between show and tell is far from perfect, the story is full of paragraphs describing the characters’ feelings that sometimes is a bit tedious to read. Miles apart is a departure from the feel good story that might be interesting for those romance readers looking for a different approach. However, if you are adverse to cheating and double standards, then this book might not be for you.
