Review of The Better to Kiss You With by Michelle Osgood
This was a cute novella. For my second Halloween read I decided to go with a werewolf story. While I’m more team vampire, I love a good werewolf story or really any kind of shape-shifting animal/human. This is a story that I’ve wanted to read for the past 5 years but it has just been parked on my Kindle. I’m glad I finally got to read it since it was better than I expected.
This would be a good Halloween read for someone that wants to dabble into urban fantasy or paranormal books, but doesn’t want anything too heavy. This book really is a romance. I would say it was 80% romance and only 20% werewolf. This is a novella, so everything has to happen a bit quicker, but the romance felt like it went at a nice pace and the book overall didn’t feel rushed. It is on the long side for a novella so I think that really helped. The characters had decent chemistry together and the sex screens were above average. They were a cute couple that was easy to root for.
I was surprised that this story felt its age a few times. A few remarks and some talk about technology that felt dated even for just being five years old. It didn’t ruin my enjoyment but it was noticeable.
There was a little bit of excitement, but not too much. For me, it was just enough to make the book feel paranormal since the rest of the story really could have been a normal romance. I do wish we would have had more “pack politics” but there are two other stories in the series so I’m guessing that might come later. The next book is about a Kiara, who is supposed to take over as pack leader at some point, so I think her story might be just what I’m looking for. 3.75 Stars!
TLDR: A solid paranormal-romance novella that is much more romance than paranormal. The romance is sweet and the story is enjoyable. Nothing really new or groundbreaking here, but I enjoyed the read and I think it would be a good book for someone that want’s to dip their toes into the paranormal genre.
