Catch up with this delightful Christmas novel!
If you follow Clare Lydon and TB Markinson’s podcast Lesbians Who Write, you know by now that Ms. Lydon is a fan of all things Christmas. Imagine a person who starts celebrating in September, watches all Xmas movies on repeat, and knows (and sings) every holiday song (even the most obscure ones) and you’ve got the perfect description of Clare Lydon. It shouldn’t be a surprise that she’s written a new Christmas story to celebrate it in Sapphic style.
Morgan Scott and her childhood friend Ali Bradford meet again by chance when the flight taking them to Devon is cancelled. They are both determined to get home in time for Christmas so they decide to take a road trip. What follows is a comical series of events that will lead them to their final destination and maybe to each other’s hearts…
I’ve read a good amount of Christmas Sapphic romances since starting to review books (and listened to a few audiobooks too) but I don’t recall any of them based on a road trip. Definitely not in the UK. The author takes us on an eventful journey from Glasgow to Devon full of hilarious situations, quirky characters (my favourite was Mrs. Claus), and lots of Christmas souvenirs.
Both main characters are endearing and their chemistry builds up slowly but surely. As it’s usual with this author, you can expect some very sexy scenes and the level of heat cranking up as the story goes by (who’d have thought that baking gingerbread could be sexy?). Also be ready for jingling jumpers, Christmas pudding, and mistletoe. An authentic Xmas fest.
I think I’ve read most of Ms. Lydon’s books and lately, I’ve seen how she’s grown as an author. Her sense of humour, wit and heartwarming moments are always present in her stories but their quality has definitely improved. In the sea of Sapphic American authors, her British perspective is a delightful bonus.
If you are looking for a feel-good, funny, and hot story to get you ready for the festive season, look no more. This Sapphic Christmas road-trip romance is for you. 5 Christmas stars.
