KJ’s Desert Island Books
Â
My book choices
‘The Goodmans‘ by Clare Ashton
Simply because it’s a fabulous novel. One of those novels that you re-read because the writing’s so wonderful. Have you read the opening paragraph? Just that alone is phenomenal.
Â
Â
‘Starting from Scratch‘ by Georgia Beers
Because I love the characters, especially Avery.
Â
Â
‘Kiss the girl’ and ‘Eyes like those’ by Melissa Brayden
There is such joy in those two books.
Â
Â
‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’, ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ and ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ by J.K. Rowling
Speaking of opening paragraphs, I can actually recite the opening paragraph of Philosopher’s Stone from memory. Apparently there’s wallpaper that you can buy which is the text from the first page of the novel. Maybe I’ll buy some when someone rescues me from the island. But! My reason for these three books is that they are the cornerstones to the entire story. Each book contains an integral plot point, more than the other books in the series.
Â
Â
My song choice
I chose Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’, which I know isn’t technically a song; it’s a concerti. But here’s my reasoning. ‘Four Seasons’ doesn’t have lyrics, which is great because then I can make up my own lyrics and I wouldn’t become bored. Plus I’m looking at being stuck on an island for months, years even, so the ‘Four Seasons’ seems rather apt.
Â
My inanimate object choice
Again, I seem to be placing items together and calling it one thing. I’d be dreadful in a real situation of ship abandonment. I’d be one of those passengers still packing their luggage as the room filled up with water. Anyway, my luxury item is an art kit of paper, pencils, sharpener, and eraser. Drawing is my relaxation, and I feel that being plonked on a desert island with little to no warning would be rather stressful. Hence, the drawing.
The idea of being stranded on a desert island makes me twitch slightly. It sounds summery, and my idea of summer awesomeness is 24-hour air-conditioning.
